#1
we were on a 138 visa but have been let down by wifes brother with sponsership.Contacted agent to be told that takes us down to 115 points unless we put up $100000 bond.I think i may have found the extra 5 points needed to get us to 120 points.I have re-done a points assesment on-line and it asked about job being on demand list and looking at it victoria looks like print machinest in on the list so i think this gives us 5 extra points. We were going to QLD but only due to the fact thats the place wifes brother is so maybe we can apply for 136 visa to vic.Am i right?

The Department of Immigration's MODL allows you to claim at least 15 points, but your occupation isn't on that list (I think):
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...-in-demand.htm
If your occupation is on a State Government's Wanted Skills List you can then look at a State Nomination, which would allow you to apply for a Skilled - STNI visa (subclass number 137).
Does this help?

You can work in any occupation, though the expectation is that you would work in the nominated occupation as it has been identified as being in demand in the nominating State.
Best regards.

I've not heard that before, Kev.
Who required you to give that undertaking, and how was it made known to you?
It can only be a VIC Government requirement, as there are no such provisions or conditions placed on 137 visas by the Department of Immigration. I'd be interested to know the format of the undertaking, and what sanction you believe the VIC Government has if you fail to keep to them (not that I'm encouraging you to do that you understand) ...

Very interesting...... I have been through all my e-mails and on the vic gov web site and can find no mention of working in my trade for 2 years. Only living and working in Regional Victoria for 2 years. We did have one e-mail from the Vic Skilled Migration Unit stating that getting any job to start with was better than no job in my trade. Where I, (or my wife) read, or were told that I had to work in my trade for 2 years is a mystery. We may have misinterpreted the requirements at the start of the process. I may e-mail the Vic skilled migration Unit and find out exactly where I stand should I change my job to one other than on my trade. Even my visa approval letter from DIMIA says 'The visas (there are 4 of us) allow all visa holders to work in Australia without any restrictions from this department'
Cheers again, Kev

I did e-mail the Vic Gov last night and had a reply today. I was pleased to read that I can work in any field I choose, but the preference is that I work in my nominated trade. The only stipulation is that I live and work in Vic for 2 years. So if jobs in your chosen trade are hard to find, then at least you can do something else with no penalty.
Hope this helps, Kev.
