Exporting cat from Scotland?
Can anyone recommend a good company to export my pet to Sydney? I have got a few quotes but I would rather go by recommendations and past experiences. I don't like the idea of him being placed in the hold area of the aircraft and crew do not get access to him during the flight. This puts me off a bit but there's no other way.
All recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks

There is a firm called Par Air Services that specialise in animal transport worldwide. They are in Essex.

I have previously used Airpets and also Golden Arrow.
They are both good companies, Airpets seems to be more expensive, but when my cats travelled with them they had a much larger travel crate than the one Golden Arrow put them in when they came to Australia.

We received a quote from http://www.pettravelservices.co.uk/contact.html who are based in Dunfermline. They were really helpful with all my questions and although our circumstances changed and our move is on hold, I will be using them when we eventually move. I visited them onsite at their cottage and spoke at length about all my questions and fears! and they were really helpful with everything.
My advice is to get many quotes and go and speak to them in person. Go with your gut instinct.

Best to go in for a chat, they're really lovely and will answer every question you think you have and give you loads of info. It's a bit tricky to find their place so leave a little extra time!
I'm not affiliated with them by the way.
I was really worried about our wee one going out - she doesn't travel well at all, and that's only a 15 minute drive to the cattery in Dunfermline so was very worried about her going all the way out. There's no option to leave her behind however, she's absolutely one of the family !
Good luck with everything.
Oh, and be prepared -it's quite a substantial cost. Hope you have more than 5/6 months before you go also as you'll need this time to get all the shots and tests results back.

Re: Exporting cat from Scotland?
I have asked for a quote so hopefully I will hear back in a couple of days. I'm really nervous about taking him. He definatley must come as he is my baby and I would not even consider leaving him behind. He's a Persian and a house cat and anytime i take him out of the house he gets quite nervous and meows constantly. Taking him to the groomers in Livingston every 10 weeks is bad enough. I have spoke to his vet and I have been assured that he will be fine as he's a healthy 3 year old cat and thousands animals fly every year. I just think flying him all that way is cruel. Stuck in that small box with not even cabin crew checking on him, only when the flight re fuels which is a very long period of time. I also have prices from the vet and I understand that with flights, quarantine and vet costs I'm looking at £2500. We plan on going April 2013 so would start the vet process in October. Big massive step for us as we're 25 but it's too much of a great opportunity. There's alot of pros and cons. We would have to sell our flat that we bought in September 2011 and leaving my mum
and dad will be hard. We're going to the emigrate show in Edinburgh on 22nd September for more information which were really looking forward to

Don't worry, you're definitely not alone in feeling these thoughts. I really was torn, and am still a little so. However, think of it this way. These companies fly cats and dogs etc.., every day all around the world. It is only 24 hours and then all done and dusted. You know how quickly 24 hours flies, literally! Your wee one will be in very good hands and checked along the way. The boxes aren't tiny and they can stand up and turn around in them. They're fed and watered and checked in London and Singapore. The people in Dunfermline said they have heard that the 'hummmmmm' of the plane actually settles lots of animals down and they sleep a lot. Your cat will be very well looked after in quarantine. The month in quarantine will allow you to put a dent into finding a rental property that accepts cats too.
It will all be fine. It's only a day and then they're there with you to continue your new life!

Your right, 24hrs will fly in and it will be all over with. It's just the thought of it. At least when he's in quarantine I can go and visit him every Tuesday and Thursday I'm sure it was.
Did you fly on the same flight as your cat?

Re: Exporting cat from Scotland?
we bought our cat over with us from Aus when we returned in 2010..she came out of the box and just wandered around our house....ate 2 packets of cat food...pooed it all out minutes later and then was her usual self.
We are shipping her back with us in Sept (we did plan to return and realised we could not leave our cat in Australia for 2 years).
Vet did rabies stuff - jab and paperwork was about £150
Import permit from AQIS : $325
Export permit : we think is free
Flight : about £8-900
Quarantine: approx $900
