Re: Ethnic TV presenters
I am Australian (with Romanian born grandmother of German extraction, plus Huguenot, Maori cousins etc. etc.) and have seen the clock turned back past fifteen years to the point that the word "multiculturalism" was banned from use in former PM Howard's office (according to Howard's views of what an Australian is the great Sir John Monash of Prussian Jewish stock would not have fitted, even though described by Lloyd George as the most competent allied officer on Western Front, and knighted on the front by the King).
Even SBS seems to have become an outpost of "skips" (anglo saxon celtic Australians, as in Skippy the bush kangaroo) and mirrors Australian society where it is still the skips who have a disproportionate hold on power.
However, it will inevitably change but for now its the "baby boomer skips" last blast of insecurity before people understand that the e.g. ethnic profile of the Socceroos is the real Australia.
As comedians from "Wogs Out of Work" in the 1980's said (very politically incorrect), "Neighbours? Ramsey Street? It must be the only street in Australia without wogs living in it"! Britain's Trevor Phillips concurred on this only last year.....
For a relevant and excellent radio series, downloadable podcasts "Beyond the Anglosphere" see here http://www.abc.net.au/rn/summer/2008/talk/interviews/ talks about people of non skip background getting on in Australia.

Soon the ethnic group "Skips" will die out from wont of surviving people who classify others into the group named after the extinct TV program "SKIPPY, skippy, skippy the bush kangaroo!" A rubbish commercial telly program fit only for low the brow but must have been watched avidly to the exclusion of all else by Poms and Wogs for them to pick it as the ethnic moniker for Australians.

I bet you are the sort of person that supports socialism and poritive discrimination.
I live in the real world or Australia and in Australias majors cities I don't see many real examples of racism in terms of doing well in life. Those that cannot do well, or lack the ability or skills will often fall back to racism as an excuse.
Most people I know are in mixed marriages. All companies I have worked for in Australia, public and private have had a huge range of multicultural staff at all levels from cleaners through to the CEO's.
I have no doubt that racism does exist, and I'm sure many working class skips and those of the older generation probably are a bit bigoted, but amongst the educated it is extremely rare.

Re: Ethnic TV presenters
I'm with the person who said they should get TV media jobs on their merit, not to fill some required quota of ethnic employees.
Here in NZ our morning show has 3 presenters - one Maori guy, one white woman and one gay white male. The discussion panel is made of mixed races and the exercise leader appears to be lesbian. They all do a pretty good job but at times it seems all a bit too perfect and PC. I wonder if there is a law that prevents people being chosen for a job on grounds of their race or sexual orientation, as there is for being excluded on those grounds. I doubt it.

Re: Ethnic TV presenters
Who cares?
What do you suggest, that some artificial, mandatory quota be put in place or some other PC bollocks?
The reality is that it would be pretty hard for young Aryan people to get jobs in Australian TV - the current presenters have been going for years and seem to hang onto their jobs, no matter how tired and ropey they look.

Most people know Ernie Dingo for his travel tales in The Great Outdoors, on Australia’s Channel 7, which he has hosted since 1993.

Re: Ethnic TV presenters
But why should commercial television stations represent the community? They are supposedly for entertainment (or what passes for that on Australian TV)

Re: Ethnic TV presenters
Not starting an Aus vs. another country discussion, but I don't believe it's any different in the majority of mainly white population countries around the world - UK, USA, Canada, France, Italy, Germany etc etc etc all have the same lack of 'ethnic' presenters compared to how many there in that country.
