Ethnic TV presenters

Just realised there are no ethnic tv presenters on any of the TV stations apart from SBS, thats incredible for such a muticultural society like Australia, i havnt been here that long so does anybody know if Channels 7,9,10 or the ABC have ever had an ethnic presenter ie news-journalism.

Juanita Phillips appears to be ethnically Australian but a murky past is hinted at by a long stint in London.

Re: Ethnic TV presenters

There have been non-SBS Aboriginal presenters (Stan Grant, Ernie Dingo) and loads of presenters/journalists who are ethnically Greek (eg John Mangos, Helen Vatsikopolous).

Can't think of any Asian presenters off the top of my head - other than those on SBS.

Oh, you meant "Racic TV presenters":
The term 'ethnic' popularly connotes 'race' in Britain, ...

That's novel.

I think most would identify Indira Naidoo as ethnically Australian with tinges of otherness.

Born in South Africa and of Tamil descent? Doesn't make her anything Australian in my book regardless of citizenship and length of time here. I think she would be a tick in OPs requirements (however narrow those requirements are).

Nearly forgot Trisha Goddard!

She started off her TV career doing the 7.30 Report on the ABC in the 80's.

Is she black enough?

Who cares?

What do you suggest, that some artificial, mandatory quota be put in place or some other PC bollocks?

The reality is that it would be pretty hard for young Aryan people to get jobs in Australian TV - the current presenters have been going for years and seem to hang onto their jobs, no matter how tired and ropey they look.

Re: Ethnic TV presenters

Why is this a problem? I hope it doesnt get like england, where they start hiring people because they have a different ethnic background and want to fill a quota or not appear bias.

People should be hired on their qualifications and ability regardless of ethnic background.
