Re: ePetition against Frozen Pension Policy
The UK pension may be frozen but it is not means tested like the Australian one....which means that anyone with any worthwhile super will not get it anyway.
I may get a frozen pension but at least I will get it on top of my other pensions

Re: ePetition against Frozen Pension Policy
Who the f**k are you?
I left SA in 1993 and never intend to live there again. Since I sold my last property there 2 years ago, I have no assets or investments there. All my assets are in Australia, UK or offshore. I earn a fairly high income and reckon I will have a comfortable retirement.
Enjoy your frozen UK state (excuse of a) pension.
Ja ek is "Zulu" just like you. And just like you I've done very nicely & have nothing in SA, it's all in Australia, offshore or UK .... just like you!
I hope you do have a comfortable retirement.
Though in my opinion EVERYONE should set up their finances to benefit from deflation during the next 10yrs, or so, otherwise we won't be as comfortable as we think we will be. The game has changed (it's an opportunity of a lifetime) what made us rich in the last 30yrs will have the opposite effect on (most) peoples finances in the next decade ......

Hi
Just realised if everyone on the board voted ( most unlikely) but it would be at least 97,330 votes on the e petition
cheers

Re: Calling British Expats
The day the British elite start retiring to Australia is the day this gets changed. If you don't want your pension frozen, move somewhere where the rich retire - like USA or Caribbean. All the places were the British Expat masses are growing older, primarily Australia and Canada and NZ, they freeze. No petition will change this.
Provided you can get that group size high enough, they will promise anything if it's a close fight.
You are right that a petition will do nothing, that's why politicians like them.

Actually the probably way to achieve this is to organise as a political group. Say to any party that if they promise to not steal from the pensioners overseas, within a year of taking office, the entire group will vote for their party.

I agree in principle, but I am skeptical that any group can be coordinated well enough to achieve this aim. Also, remember that by around 2020 the majority voting block will be those born after 1975, and then politicians will start to pander to that age group. I think the boomers have a big surprise coming to them on this score because they have had the attention of the politicians their whole lives, but that's about to stop.
The real fun begins when the workers say no to ever higher taxes, and the pensioners say yes to higher pensions, medical care, index linked overseas pensions, etc. Battle of the grannies.

Err, the baby boomers will still exist as a large voting block, and they will be pensioners, which are generally the group that votes in the biggest numbers. The expectation is therefore that the earth belongs to the martians ..... err, that these pensioners will vote themselves a good deal at the expense of what workers still remain.

Repeat several million times over.
It seems the under 30's are currently too apathetic too care, but they will at some point.

While they are the biggest demographic at the moment, it won't take long before they are equal to the next generation, and then smaller than it. This is inevitable at some point, and gets more likely with each passing year. When it happens, the remaining boomers will be hung out to dry by politicians eager for the votes of the biggest block (those born after 1975). Remember also that if someone born in 1975 wants to retire at the boomer retirement age (55) this will only be in the year 2030!! And then that person becomes one of the pensioners you are talking about wielding their vote!
I agree totally about your Battle of the Grannies - whatever age group make up pensioners, they will always be catered to by government, and that is going to cause problems as we get longer lifespans and expect younger people to pay more tax. Perhaps if the rich hadn't stolen so much money in tax evasion:

They will care when they work out how much of their salary goes on a roof compared to their parents, and how much of what is left is taken in tax to give to their parents.
