Default ePetition against Frozen Pension Policy

Hi All

I would like to refer you to a new ePetition against the British Government's Frozen Pension Policy. If we can get 100,000 signatures from British residents or British Citizens, we can get a debate on the issue in the House of Commons.

http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/16387

END THE UNFAIR FROZEN OVERSEAS PENSION POLICY
Under regulation 3 of the Social Security Benefits Up-rating Regulations British pensioners who retire to any one of over 120 countries, mainly in the Commonwealth, have their rightful state pension frozen. Meanwhile, those who retire to other countries have their pension uprated annually, just as though they never left the UK. This discriminatory policy currently impacts on the lives of over half a million British pensioners and curtails the freedom of choice of all British pensioners in retirement. We call for this Government to heed the plea of the International Consortium of British Pensioners to repeal this Regulation.

If you live outside of the UK, you can use the drop down menu to choose the country you live in, I think preferably before putting in your postcode.

Didn't UK pensioners just lose their case in the European Courts?

Waste of time, there's no way the UK govt. is going to subsidise the lives of wealthy expats living it up in the sun whilst everyone else back in Blighty has to suffer the next great depression in the rain.

Exactly. Flogging a dead horse with this petition methinks.

Thanks for the posts but a] not all expats are wealthy and b] arent we saving the Uk govt money by not draining their health system when we get older . Not sure that a negative appraoch is the best approach. What would happen if all expats went back cos they couldnt afford to live in thero chosen country .

I know, that's just the way the government will portray the expat pensioners in order to garner support from the Brits unlucky enough to be stuck in the UK.

The UK govt are thieves (regardless of political persuasion) they can never be relied to do the right thing. The only thing you can guarantee they will to is steal from you and stitch you up whenever the opportunity presents itself.

These petitions come around every year, don't waste your time with them IMO.

Surely if you cared so much for the UK taxpayer then you would not support the campaign since if successful, it means even more of their money is lost to the UK economy forever? If the people who will have to pay do vote in a government with a policy to uprate my pension then great, but it is a matter that is entirely for them. I would not insult my intelligence or theirs by claiming I was doing them a favour by staying away.

I signed up to the previous two petitions and this one but I agree it's unlikely to change anything.

You would think they would say "Yep, you are right. We are now stopping index linkage of all these expat pensions."

They would spend the money in the UK most likely thereby boosting the economy. Sending the money abroad is a total loss to the UK so they should keep the system the way it is just something to be aware of if you migrate.
