Surely though, England have other quality strikers who should be getting the nod before Rooney, who after all, is 17, hasn't any real experience in the premiership never mind international level, and his goal scoring record is not that good.
For me, Beattie is the form player, just who do you play with him is the question, esp if Owen is not fit.
Possibly play 5 accross the middle, with Lampard breaking forward in support?
