Something interesting arrived in my mailbox this morning. I get news from infomine a mining website with lots of job. This is what came in today:
Australia needs mining professionals!
Get your job in Australia at the Opportunities Australia Expo in London this weekend - IBIS London, Earls Court Hotel, 3-4 November
Australia's top mining employers are coming to London to recruit British mining professionals with the right skills. Meet face-to-face with representatives from Perilya Broken Hill Limited, Downing Teal, The Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Western Australia (CCI), Beresford Blake Thomas and recruitment consultants - Radiate Recruitment. These companies will all be interviewing people on the day of the event and in the week afterwards.
At the expo you will also be able to get visa advice from the Australian government's Department of Immigration and Citizenship, open a bank account, transfer your pension, change your currency and speak with relocation specialists.
For further info and to pre-purchase tickets visit:

Yes, I'm aware of that. I was just speaking generally since the whole mining job thing comes up often and others might be reading.
We don't live in Perth so it would be tough for me to tell someone the specifics. If you're there you'd know better than I would. But would a mechanical engineer with no mining experience get a mining job that is city based? I would imagine they would prefer ones with mining experience, unless they are really desperate.
But I can say on the East Coast, when we were job hunting it was difficult to find any city based roles for a mining engineer. My husband did eventually find one, but he was one of the lucky ones. We were repeatedly told by recrutiers that the city based roles were more difficult to get as there is so much competition. So that is where I'm coming from.

What is the average price of a house though? Just curious because we could have gone to Perth and made more money there. Money wasn't the issue though so we chose to stay on the East coast. Although, because my husband is a mining engineer we may end up there some day. The trouble is he actually prefers the mine based roles.

Good to know. Worth a shot then because the salaries should be better in mining.

For anyone thinking of working in the mining industry, there is a mining and engineering expo on at Clarememont Showgrounds, 7th - 9th November.

Theres a huge building project about to start on Barrow Island, around 2000 construction workers needed. It's called the Gorgon Project.
Also Apache Energy are about to start building a new gas plant in Devils Creek.
The oil and Gas industry is booming just now to, and at $92 a barrel, you can see why!
