I agree with your earlier statement that if you are carrying any drugs you should have a letter from your GP.
Most drugs are allowed, in most countries, if they are prescribed but you should be able to prove it.
Benzodiazepines are acceptable , in most countries, on prescription,but I do remember someone arrested in some country (maybe Indonesia) recently for posessing several thousand
Codiene is a 'No No' in many countries.
It is irresponsible IMO to travel with any medication without a covering note from your Doctor.
Peole seem not to realise that 'simple' drugs such as some cough medicines contain ingredients that are illegal in many countries.
One medicine which used to be easily available 'over the counter' in the UK was 'Kaolin and Morph' (not sure if it still is). This was a routine medication for diarrheoa yet contains Morphine :scared:
Morphine is a VERY banned substance in many countries (and attracts a death sentence in several).
OK this is a bit extreme but does anyone really want to take the chance??

WOW Grayling,
you've opened my eyes tonight to a very simple act that can cause you heap loads of trouble to put it mildly, not sure if this is quite where you intended your thread to go but hope others will be reading it.
I am a Nurse/ Midwife but ithadnt occured to me about the dangers of medications, and I have taken Kaolin and Morph abroad on holiday too!!

I am a Nurse too (semi-retired).
This thread was not really meant to to cause any hassle/debate. it was really about an item I heard on Radio 4 earlier. However it is certainly a subject which deserves some attention.
If it stops one person getting into bother it is worthwhile.

. Pretty slim chance I know, but when you are talkiing death penalty stuff, I was having nightmares about it for weeks. They kept on telling us that since it was only transit that no one would care anyway, yeah, maybe I should have asked them to carry it for us instead 
.When we travel we always take the original prescription with us, as well as a detailed letter from the doctor describing the medical condition they have, the medication they take & dosages.

And on reflection, I am quite glad I decided against the plan of taping them to my thighs and covering them in pepper.
