Default Emergency flight to UK?

Scenario:

You have lived in AUS almost 4 years - got your citizenship a year ago but haven't got Aussie passports yet...you need to fly back to the UK immediately...

Do you still have to get a RRV for re-entry into AUS?

If so, how do you do this and does it take long?

Can you get a Aussie passport issued quick smart (Like within 24 hours?)? Obviously the equivelent of driving to Swansea (UK) isn't happening - big country and all that...

Where are passports issued in AUS (in case we could do a drive to get issued and collect)?

Thanks.

Think they are issued in Canberra but not sure - wouldn't worry too much - call the High Commision for info. does this mean your PR has expired I came back into Oz without oz passport and I was citizen - got stopped at Sydney but explained the scenario - no worries

There's been a thread in the last few days and it had details of getting a passport done in a couple of days, someone who had to travel for business right after getting citizenship. I'm looking for it, but thought I'd give you a clue in case you can find it first - think its a citizenship thread.....

You can travel on your UK passport (if you have one) if you have Oz citizenship - try and take a copy of your citizenship cert with you for your return - or else just explain. They can check it out on the system.

Once you have your citizenship your visa is cancelled, and you can't get an RRV because you are a citizen, thus have to travel on an Aussie passport.

Unfortunately I think your nearest office is Brisbane, bit more of a trek than the usual drive to Swansea, especially with the roads shut by floods

You need to find your local passport office.
Then you can go and lodge your passport request in person (be prepared for a bit of a wait) with all the relevant docs, have an interview where docs are checked.
Pay passport fee plus expediting fee (of about 100 dollars extra).
2 days later you can collect the passport from the same office.

Thanks Pol (and everyone else) that's what I thought (re: visa cancelled 'cos I have citizenship and therefore RRV ineligibility, so Aussie passport a requirement).

Weather really not helping at this time of year... (Drive = closed roads Airlie beach / Prosperine there on...)

Hopefully UK situation will settle and not require a mercy dash...

Meantime, I'll check with High Commission.

Yeah, that was my first thought, you'd need to get to Brisbane and the Bruce could be shut for a while yet due to the flooding. Rail line is out too. You'd be looking at a flight to Brisbane I reckon, Maybe (if it came to it) ring the passport office here and see how quick they can process it, then book the international flight from Brisbane and get a domestic one down here first to do the passport. If you are booking flights in a hurry you may well have to connect through Brisbane anyway.

Hope things improve and it's not necessary.......
