This thread's resurrection is timely, as I believe that the UK has introduced (or is about to introduce) the same kind of regulations as exist in Oz regarding unqualified people installing fixed electrical devices/wiring.
I second Larissa's gripe about the plugs pulling out easily, and also how easy they are to distort: knock one sideways and if it doesn't come out, the chances are that the pathetically thin pins will have bent. I know the UK ones are a bit over-engineered (well we're good at that!) but at least they're a lot more confidence-inspiring. They're a lot easier to wire too!
