I think it's because many poms have seen the cock-up that a quasi-socialist, namby-pamby government has made in the UK and realise that a KRudd/Gillard government will do the same here.

Heaven help us.
Nah, the difference is that the sort of people that are more likely to vote in meaningless forum polls are the sort of people that would vote Liberal.

Did I vote? ... oh yeh so I did ... bugger, it's blown my argument then

Even if Australia switches off everything, China will make up for the reduction in CO2 within a six weeks. That's why Krudds whole climate change electioneering is a load of bollox.

I agree that unless we can get China, India and America to stop polluting anything we do is a drop in the ocean. Therefore let's try to go for clean coal power and leave the uranium where it belongs - in the ground.

Clean coal is part of the solution but only part. If you want a booming economy with zero emissions then it will need to be a combination of nukes, clean coal, gas, solar, wind and wave.

I'll take some emissions and leave the nuclear thanks.

With all the hysteria (which it is) over man-made CO2 then nuclear is the future.

That does raise a good point. What is the point in going nuclear when the amount of CO2 we generate is minimal. I don't even see the point in bothering with clean coal for domestic consumption, unless we can sell it to the Chinese.

Because the GW bandwagon/gravy train (delete as applicable) is everything now and any politician that does not sign-up will be slaughtered come election day.

But if we develop the technology it will be very valuable when China India and the USA eventually jump on the band wagon.

Are you allowed to deface your ballot paper and write obscenities on it like they do in the UK?

As I understand it. Your vote will be classed as a donkey vote and will therefore go to the governing party, ie Librals

And, while we're on the subject - can anyone explain the preference voting system?

(Use extra paper if required)

It sounds as deliberately obfuscating (now *there's* a favourite word <g>) as Medicare....
