Default ear trouble

my wife has developed some middle ear problems and it seems it could be meniers disease. at the moment we have decided to go private as our nhs appointment is only 2 weeks prior to leaving uk. it is going to cost me approx £1000 for another consultation & scans, does anyone know what sort of costs would occur if we left it until arriving in oz, is it covered on medicare?

any replies would help
thanks

You would still have to pay to see a specialist (and for the GP appointment to get the referral to a specialist!). You can then claim part of the money back from Medicare, about 2/3 of it, I think, can't remember the exact amount. You'll be able to see the specialist more or less straightaway, I think I had to wait about a week for an appointment, but of course, this depends how many ENT specialists live near you.

p.s. I hope, for your wife's sake, its not Meniere's. My MIL was told she had it but it turned out that her prescription was too strong for her glasses. Her GP always tries to keep her happy because she likes being able to say she has a disease.
