Please can someone help - rellies in the UK want to buy the kids DVDs for Christmas, not that we've got a DVD player! We do have however a PS2. Question is, what region DVDs will a PS2 play. It was bought in the UK but seems to play DVDs from the video shop here ok. I'm getting very confused (doesn't take much!!).

Does anyone know? Ta very much!

UK PS2s play UK DVDs (Region 2). It isn't supposed to play Region 4 but I know from experience that it will play most. There is the odd disc it won't read (region 4). IF your relatives are in the UK and the PS2 was bought in the UK then Region 2 DVDs are no problem.

You can make it multi region by chipping it or buying software but thats a story for another day Having worked in Electronics Boutique/Game for 2 years and having been asked this question hundreds of times it is burnt into my memory lol

oh btw, not all region 2 PS2s play Region 4 DVDs it was just a few batches with a certain version of bios that do. Don't ask me about the logic of that.

A lot of DVDs are encoded in several regions hence they will play back in different regions.
