Default Dogs, how long before for vets

Hi all,

I have been talking to a vet today (a neighbour) who told me that you have to get your dog microchipped and vaccinated at least 6 months before leaving the country.
Can anyone tell me if this is right? And can you use any vets? If not, where do you find out which ones you can use?
Thanks very much

I can't find anything saying 6 months on the department of agriculture, fisheries and forestry web site. It does say you need a microchip. It also goes on about vet certiciates, but I can only find one to do with rabies.
My poor baby, she hates needles.
It looks like you have to contract DEFRA to find out what vets you can use.

Thanks very much.
Do you get the vetenary forms A and B once you have applied for the import thingy?
And dogs coming from the UK don't need rabies, is that right?

Thanks

Re the forms, I think so yes, but check with whoever's shipping for you (haven't got that far with mine yet!).

You don't need rabies jabs, however, if there is any possibility you may come back to the UK in the future, then without the rabies jab and a pet passport you are looking at a 6 month quarrantine. With both, you can just waltz straight in!

Oh and by the way, if you ask for a quote from airpets (even if you don't intend to use them) then they send you a pack with everything explained much more simply than in the AQIS paperwork

we had our dog microchipped right as we started all the paper work for him, so no it doesnt have to be 6 months before. highly recommed airpets, they were brilliant and will do all the paper work for you and tell you exactly what to do and when to do it. they will apply for the import permit, book quarantine...etc it takes the stress out of it.
if you phone the vets that you normally use they may have a vet that is registered to sign all the paper work, just ask them they should know whos ok to do it if not ask the company your going through they will help. good luck.....

Dogs must not have LEPTO in their annual booster. They need to be tested for three things 30 days prior to shipping and this includes lepto. My two have failed their first lepto test done two weeks ago and have been retested yesterday, they are due to fly on the 1st July.

Shippers include the Australian permits in their quote £155 for two
Shippers costs £3159 for two dogs
Quarantine about £700
Blood tests first lot £255
Second blood test £40

Costs about £5k for an english springer and cocker spaniel.
