Dog question - re jags/blood tests
Hi all
Does anyone know if dogs have to have the rabies jag - the paperwork is very confusing - worse than our actual emigration papers.
Also, I know the Government vet is your local vet - who is the Official vet that signs certificate B - is that the vet at Heathrow airport.
Questions, questions, questions - please help!

Hi Laura, how's you? Neil dealt with all this but he tells me no rabies needed. We used Pettravel, a comapny based in Dunfermline, Fife. They kept us right and were not too expensive. Email: [email protected] Donna & Neil

We are using a company from Glasgow called Arbuckle Smith - to be honest all they deal with is transferring the dog over - nothing else! They were really cheap - £1000 in total.
We thought we would do this ourselves, however it is becoming a bit of a nightmare....
Thanks for your help.

There's lots of info on here Laura to read through
Don't forget when your dog has his normal UK annual vaccination (booster) not to have the Lepto part of it as this causes dogs to fail the blood test just before departure - so if your dogs booster is due less than 6 months (check this timescale it could be a bit longer?) before you go make sure they don't have this part of the vaccination, you'll need to make sure you have all the facts. My vet said that the Lepto vacc comes 'all in' so to not include it they'd need to order in one without it.
I'm sure someone else will come on with a fuller explanation of above but wanted you to be aware.

Re: Dog question - re jags/blood tests
yes thats right, we werent aware of that when we had our dogs blood tests and he failed, its stressful at the time but looking back now it wasnt to bad, if they fail you just have them re-tested 14 days after the first blood test, but when times not on your side its abit of a nightmare and also when the vet phones the day your leaving to tell you that the dog has passed!! doh. the other thing we found out was that if when you get to oz you get your dog a pet passport which takes about 7 months for blood tests and to be processed etc then if you were to take your dog back to the uk then they wont need to go into quarantine, which is better than 6 months in quarantine.
