Default Does your chipped DVD player work in Oz?

Hi

I recently chipped my DVD player so it is now multi-regional. I tried a R1 disc but it played in black and white and I think that is because the USA plays on NTSC (??). I think Ozzie is like the UK - although a different region they both use PAL. Is this right? has anyone chipped a R2 (Europe) box to make it multi-regional, then taken it to Oz? Does it work? And play without any problems?

Cheers, SS

Sounds like you could have problems with your machine to me.

Aldi sell a Tevion brand, that plays everything. Multi regional, plus VCD, WMA, JPEG, the whole lot, except for MPEG4, plus it's 5.1 channel DTS, Costs 49.95 aud.

Will check to see if can play NTSC, however it's pal 1 and 2 for sure.

Thats about 20 quid.

Bring yours, but be prepared to pay 20 Quid

BTW, couldn't you get a software hack for your particuar dvd player ?

Yeah - I got a hack from the net and it has worked. By that I mean it now plays R1 discs and didnt before - but only in black and white. I did some digging on the net and think it is cos of the whole NTSC/PAL thing....and the TV I use - which is kack - only plays PAL.

That's why I am hoping it will be ok in Oz.

I really want to bring my system if I can because of the surround sound set-up. It's pretty decent so would rather not have to sell it if I can.....

My UK video and DVD combo didn't work out here, sound was messed up and the picture was unstable. I'd bring it just incase but a new multiregion one here costs peanuts.

We had our DVD player chipped over 5 years ago and it works no problem here, the only problems we have is with the scratched dvd's we rent.
