Designated area question
Hi folks
Probably a silly question, but can anyone tell me, that if you are going down the designated area sponsorship route (in my case Adelaide), does this mean to validate your visa you have to land in Adelaide first, or can you go anywhere in OZ to validate visa? Reason being I would like to visit friends in Sydney before I go to Adelaide.
Anyone?
Theresa

Cheers for that, I was starting to feel disappointed about not going straight away.

Re: Designated area question
Oddly enough you can apparantly go anywhere to live. You don't have to go to your designated area as long as your sponsor is there. Seems very strange to me. My sponsor is in Melbourne but I want to go to Sydney and I'm told this is fine!
If anybody knows different please let me know!!

Re: Designated area question
That's correct Jayne.
The DIMIA's take on this is that those who are sponsored by a family member will usually settle close to those family members - even though there is no requirement to do so. I imagine there has been some research into this by the Department, though I haven't seen any.
Best regards.
