Dental Work
Hi,
The whole issue of Medicare and whathaveyou is a mystery to me, and unfortunately I need my wisdoms removed - pronto.
Situation : In Australia on a 457 'sponsorship' by my company. They pay a basic 30$ a week or something medical cover, but I'm pretty convinced that this doesn't cover any dental work.
Just wanted any advice - am I completely screwed and have to pay the full amount in cash (any idea how much for three teeth?) or is there some kind of discount I might be eligible for?
From the medicare site it appears I'm entitled to nothing....
Thanks - any advice most welcome.
Richard

Re: Dental Work
Medicare does NOT cover dental.
Depending on the type of Private Medical Insurance Policy you have, you MAY be covered for some of the costs.
A simple tooth removal can be from about $100 upwards.
I just paid $28 for a tooth xray, and $35 for a Comprehensive Check up.

Hi, I've been to the dentist today. $35 for a consultation. Free x-ray (through medicare) I need a wisdom tooth out as quick as yesterday and will cost $120 as it'll be a simple extraction as it is partially out. Problem is it's growing at a funny angle and there's no room for it to come out. I will also need 2 other wisdom teeth out, which could be done now at a cost between $180 and $220. However if I wait for both these teeth to reach the gum line the price will drop to betwewen $120 and $180. It all depends how easily removed they are. The 4th one can stay where it is aslong as it continues to grow in the right direction. Why couldn't all this of happened 4 months ago when I was still in the UK and entitled to a discount? One of the last things we did was get a check up. Which by the way over here we've been told will be $40 per adult check up and a bit cheaper for our 4 year old (don't know how much cheaper mind you. And $85 for a scale and polish!!
