Dental Implants in Oz or elsewhere??PLEASE!
Hi,i just seen dentist in Oz and they said i will need 4 maybe 5 implants at $5500 each to have full mouth sorted out!! Also some other treatment which will likely bring the whole treatment up to approx $30,000!!!
Is this for real? I heard somebody say before about going to Thailand or Germany or somewhere like that and getting done for a lot cheaper. Im not sure if it would mean a few trips outwith Australia or what!!
I would love to hear from anybody out there with any information or suggestions as i really want to get this sorted:curse:

I have none of my own teeth, they've all been replaced by implants, I'm sure that you can get a better deal than that. Your profile doesn't seem to indicate where you are so I can't help much more.

Hi, I don't have implants but I did have a lot of cosmetic work done (incl. 16 crowns) when I lived in Singapore and the cost was very reasonable. Not as cheap as you could get in Bangkok, I am sure, but I didn't have to travel back and forth to get it.
I'm unsure about the process for implants but I would think you need quite a few visits, so is it really feasible to travel? Not sure...anyway here is the site for my dentist: http://www.shentondental.com/index.php
He's a lovely man - I've sent so many friends to him (including somebody in Oz from this site!) and they all love him too, he's very gentle and caring and doesn't charge silly expat prices. He's UK trained.
I also know he specialises in implants. Some info and prices here: http://www.shentondental.com/services.php
You could always email him and ask for his advice on whether it's feasible to do. If you do, PM me for my real name and mention me - can't do any harm and might do you some good NB I'm no longer in Sg, so nothing to gain from recommending him.

Hi
That was me! I had to have a root canal done here last year which nearly bankrupted me. In the end I had the treatment here but on Seasiders recommendation used her dentist to do the crown on my trip back to the UK. He did me a crown and some fillings at a 1/3 of the cost of Aussie prices. As Seasider said he's a lovely chap and you don't feel at all that you are being ripped off, he does actually care about your teeth.
He suggested to me some implants to get rid of a bridge and the price considering wasn't actually too bad - just don't have that spare cash at the moment! He said he could send me out into the world with a beautiful smile on a 36 hour stopover!
Anyway, I like Seasider have no hesitation in recommending him. His surgery isn't flashy but has all the latest equipment and his nurses are so sweet.
I intend having a check-up once a year on my way to the UK rather than see a private UK chap or one out here in Oz.
The other place to consider is the Bangkok Dental Hospital - a mate of mine in Singapore has a friend who flies up for treatment. They will even arrange a dental holiday for you - hotels the lot!
You can PM me as well for my real name as they do ask who referred you!
Good luck
KK

Hi KK I had a check-up in Sydney and the dentist said, "Lovely crowns!" I would go back to Sg for more cosmetic work, for sure, but then I can always find a floor to sleep on to save money.

Had a similar aussie quote 5.5k for one implant but would like to get some other work done too.
Problem is if you go to Singapore, how long do you need to stay to have procedure done, isnt it a matter of weeks to get implants made, fitted etc?
We have friends there but cant see them wanting me to stay 6 months or something

Hi
The Singapore guy said he could do implants in a few days. With the crown I was a few weeks apart from taking the impression to having it fitted. He put a temporary one on which actually lasted the 5 weeks in between although I was very carefully eating.
If you email him they will give you a quote and a guide to the time needed.
I'll be back there when I've won the lotto! I think he quoted me S$7k for 3 teeth which was about 2.5k pounds back in June. So basically that's 3 for the price of 1 Aussie tooth (depending on Xchange rates - can still only do pound conversions!).
I would consider it as I too have chums in Singapore I can stay with!
I think the dentists in Sing and Thailand are geared up for dental holiday work.

As are the hospitals, KK. A lot of my girlfriends went up to Bangkok for little "holidays" and came back looking very refreshed indeed. A lot of people from Arab countries go to Singapore for medical treatment, too - in fact Sg markets itself in that respect.
I had, I think, 3 appointments for my 16 crowns including the first which was from 9am to 4pm
I don't know anything about implants, hopefully somebody else can comment, but I would think your mouth needs time to settle down between extraction and implant.

Hubbie was told he needed two implants in the UK. He was told they drill into your jaw, put a pin in, leave that to heal for a couple of weeks, then open up the gums again to put on the implants. For two they told him it was going to be £3500, so not a huge difference.
He never had them done, as we could not afford that. The anoying thing was that they said he could get them doneon the NHS IF he looked after his teeth, which he didn't, because he was counted as deformed as he never had adult teeth under those baby ones.
Hubbies hey!
