Default decision made ahhhhhhhhh

Hello out there, what a fantastic forum..... so we have made the decision ... a little background, I am an aussie, have lived in uk for 20 years, kids will become aussies and hubby is applying for spousal visa. we are looking ....to move in june 2013 we have made the decision to sell all we own (most of it is rubbish, old and well past its best)..... now then, we are looking at areas like attwell, success, rockingham, and joondalup.... we are hoping hubby will secure work in canning vale as he has had 12 years working over here as an engineer, machine operator.... I need to settle kids into school and decide what is best for our 10 month old, ie nursery, home help or aupair so i can return to work... trying to work out the child benefit system and its soooooo complicated..... any advice on these areas, or any pinpoints to other areas would be great ....... i am crossing everything that my childhood memories of australia are still there, things are soooo uptight over here, and i really think we would give the children a better quality of life??? we are not big spenders, we love the quiet and out door life, we life being social and love bbqs

Good on yer....

Child benefit... Could never work it out.... Think it depends on your earnings... Think you can end up paying money back if at the end of the year you earn too much???

We're in shockingham... And despite my current low, we love it... Even if once the kids have flown the nest we plan to go rural and isolated....

Wish we had done it when the kids were younger

Hi, Sounds like you have an exciting time ahead!
Re. child benefit, as eddie007 says your eligibility will depend on your household income. There are different parts you may be eligible for Family Tax Benefit Part A and B depending on income. If you have children are preschool or in child care (a nursery) you may also receive financial assistance with their fees - again depending on income and whether you both work or study.
Centrelink deal with all things to do with Family Assistance payments. I would go to your closet Centrelink office when you arrive. Or create an account online and try and decifer it from there! We too found it complicated and during our first year it was easier to make a lump sum claim at the end of the tax year, although moving forwards you are less out of pocket if you estimate your earnings and get regular payments throughout the year.
All the best with your plans.
