Daylight Saving........

I for one totally LOVE the daylight saving, especially as I dont get in from work until about 7pm, and I now have a while before it gets dark.

But the amount of customers of mine that just cant get their heads round it........one lady even said she has too many things to do in the mornings before she gets the kids off to school..............and now has an hour less to do it in???????????

Ridiculous isn't it. I was having a discussion with my daughters class teacher and she is dead against it, can't understand the benefits at all.

I can't say it bothers me either way but the kids seem to enjoy being in the pool a bit longer in the evenings.

Can't wait for it, if I've got citizenship I'll vote in favour.

You are all so English. Used to summer sun till 10pm.

Personally its irritating.... Having twice a year to change all your watches, car, clocks, computer, harder to coordinate a decent time to call the uk, aus and usa on a conference call, journey home on the train requires hanging around in the heat now.

Just think of the council costs of having a person go round and change all the clocks in the city.

I was looking forward to going to WA and getting away from it in the UK.
Reminds me of Africa - they dont need daylight savings either to survive. I wont be voting for it to continue.

You can vote against it but in 3 years it's gonna get passed. Most people I know are for it. I think it's great.

But isn't the temperature the temperature, regardless of the time it's at? All that will be affected is that it will still be a bit warmer relatively later in the day, or was your post tongue in cheek? ;)

Think he was doing the standard Aussie line where everyone suddenly drops like fly's in the heat despite the fact that they would have still being doing something in the heat at that time... :D .

Because my little one is still so young (18 months) I put him to bed early and like putting him to bed when it is dark, so at the moment I wouldn't be in favour of it for QLD. Daylight saving would also mean the younger kids wouldn't get to enjoy the Christmas lights as they would be in bed before it got dark.

Not really; it DOES get cooler when the sun goes down, you know. And I'm perfectly happy to start my day at 4am, instead of 5, just as long as I can have my siesta.

Quote from a repeat of Aussie comedy "Kingswood Country (currently on the TV) "He even tried to have daylight saving time banned cos the extra daylight fades the Kingswood while its parked in the driveway ...." :D

Heh heh, I know that, but if it is going to get up to 40 degrees in a day, it will get up to 40 degrees! Just because it is now 3pm and it was 4pm won't change that. I see your point though, it will appear cooler relatively later in the day now.

I suppose it is something one just gets used to. When I was living in Perth a few years ago, that was the one thing I missed about Ireland, longer days in the summer. I was always amazed how quickly the sun set in Perth. I used to cycle to and from work, but was reluctant in the winter because it would be quite dark sometimes on the way back, but it might be a bit better now when I get back next year!

The problem with a lot of Perthites is that they are so used to doing the same boring thing for donkeys years and any suggestion of change/improvements like daylight saving, extended shopping hours are moaned about!

Time Wait Awhile caught up with the rest.

In Aus, if you are entitled to vote, you are obliged to vote or risk being fined, so I imagine the above is not true!

A woman wrote into The West Australian newspaper complaining that the locusts out in the wheatbelt (they have a locust problem out there at the moment) now have an extra hour to do their destruction!

What a tool.

That seems to be the standard mentality they can't get there head around the sun still shines for the same length of time you just get up hour earlier or later.

I was talking to a woman in IGA the other day and she was complaining that they now eat dinner at 8.30 pm- why?
Is it becuase they 'have' to eat their evening meal in the dark?
Can't understand the mentality!
I think it's great, kids are in the pool longer and able to go for walks etc after tea.

My kids are were waking up when the sun came up (5.00am) , regardless of what time they went to bed. Now they wake an hour later, so it can't be all bad. ;)

We have been here for almost 10 months and they have already forgotten that summer in the UK meant going to bed when it was still light, how quickly they forget!

Although The West Australian is not as bad as The Daily Mail, I think a lot of the people who write letters to The West would enjoy reading The Mail if they lived in the UK.

Are Aussies not more Sun people? But then that extra our of reading would upset them.

I had to resurrect this after a conversation tonight with an Aussie lady in her sixties. Very strongly anti-daylight savings, for this reason.
"The cows will have to be milked at the same time as usual, but the tanker that collects the milk will turn up an hour late so all the milk will be ruined." I tried, believe me I tried, to explain to her that if the tanker comes at 6 am now, it will still come at 6am, but she insisted that the cows are milked at 5, and under daylight savings there will be TWO hours between 5 am and 6am, so the milk will spoil!

Unless they continue to milk at 5am (non daylight savings) which is now 4am due to the changes. She does have a point if thats a problem. Will the milk spoil?.... dont know... but personally I dont like daylight savings purely as i cant be ar*ed to change my clocks.

She really believed that there would be an extra hour in the day. I had to give up, she just didn't understand that the clocks moved and the day duid not suddenly get 25 hours in it!

If you were coming to Brissie and likely to never get long summer evenings again, then you might see a point to DST. I read on here courtesy of someone the other day that there are actually more days in London where it is daylight at 6pm, then there are in Melbourne! :)
