Sure they would! By your reasoning, they would be exposed to one LESS hour of sunlight and therefore would have a lesser chance of getting skin cancer. A reason to bring on the DLS, I think LOL :p

No. People who get up at 4.30 am (when the sun rises) and go to bed at say 9.30 pm (three hours after the sun has set) already experience the full amount of daylight that is currently available.

If they continue to do this after daylight saving is introduced (when the sun will be rising at 5.30pm), they'll still continue to experience the full amount of available daylight, so are unaffected by the change. Changing the clocks will make no difference to the amount of daylight they get during their waking hours.

It's only the people who are currently missing out on daylight because they're in bed asleep that will benefit from the change.

Indeed - which let's be honest, is a lot of people - bar farmers (primary producers) and some tradies.

Currently, arguably a tradie can't start too early anyhow due to noise of machinery.

can't see an extra hour making much of a difference!! anyway we all did it back in the UK so it shouldn't affect us that much.

Touche;) Having lived with DLS all my life, I personally prefer the extra hour of light in the evening but then.... I'm not an early riser. Those who say, go for an ocean swim or surf or a run at 5 before work might find DLS annoying.

Not an early riser, either - but luckily we have daylight saving here so no issue for me ;) .

I can understand both sides of the argument. I can see that Perth (and the rest of SW WA) and Brisbane (and the rest of SE QLD) would definitely benefit - it's just that the remainder of those huge states won't. There's absolutely no point whatever in Cairns or Broome, for example, having daylight saving. Logical solution would be for the southern parts of WA and QLD to have it and the rest, not - but I can't really see that happening.
