Default Is a day enough in Sydney?

As a follow on from my last post, we are planning on flying in to Sydney early morning and flying out again in the evening is this enough? or shall we book for a 2 day stopover.

We are not planning on moving here just want to see the sights while we are over there.

Cheers for any replies.

To be thoroughly honest? You won't see a whole lot in one day.

Hi again,

We did it in a day, depends on what you want to see. We went to Circular Quay and looked at the Harbour Bridge and Opera House and walked for a bit in the Botanical Gardens. After lunch we took the train to Town Hall (which is on the same line from the Airport as mentioned in my reply to your previous post) and walked the short walk to Sydney Aquarium and the Maritime Museum (there are leaflet stands at the airport for these attractions). I believe you can also take a ferry from Circular Quay to this area.

There is a monorail which we took back to Town Hall as the kids' were a bit tired, but that seems to get crowded and you really do not see much more of Sydney.

Unless you are keen on walking the Bridge or visiting those famous Sydney beaches, I don't think there is much else you can do with young kids.

Depends what you want to see and do really, last year we had 5 days there and did the following:

Taronga Zoo - across the harbour on the ferry,

Bridge Climb at twilight,

Lunch in China Town,

Evening dinners at Darling harbour / Circular Quay,

Day trip to the Blue Mountains,

Day out at Wonderland,

Sydney Aquarium,

Whizzed around on the ( packed out ) monorail,

Sunday market at The Rocks,

Theres heaps of other stuff too, but we were kiddie and m-i-l bound!!!!!

Would have liked to have seen an opera too, madame butterfly was fully booked, so look at the website and book before you go, if theres something you want to go see.

You mean to the Darling Harbour monorail? Hell, it was going broke when I last lived there in 1998.

A day is OK if you are a bit shallow.

Very!
But hey wouldnt the world be a boring place if we were all the same
and while we are on the subject how many 3&6 year old boys do you know who are into. operas and historical architecture?

Thanks for the advice though

As I say we are just going for a quick view. and when we finally get to live in Oz full time, we may try and prove not be too shallow

Glad you took it in good heart. I wasn't that impressed by Sydney. But then, I don't like cities too much.

I prefer open spaces and nature.

Visiting one of the many beaches or national parks is also recommended. Plenty go to Manly on the ferry instead of coughing up for a harbour cruise.

The Sydney harbour national park walk is really good but would be too much for young children. Just walk from the botanical gardens to the opera house and you will feel like you've seen Sydney if you only have one day.

like any city a day can be too long and a week too short.
The main sites round the harbour can easily be seen in a day but much longer is needed to do everything.
If it is only a stopover I would not try to do too much as you will be knackered anyway.
Go to the harbour and Opera house, go on a ferry and relax in the botanical gardens. You often have to book a day or two in advance to do the bridge climb.
There is a good circular bus service round many of the beaches etc. and that is worth doing but it will have to be a long day.

Stay a few days to see it all properly

Have a good trip

G
