I am English, and met my Australian wife in Brighton where I was living and working (a whole bunch of Aussies arrived on mass at our company for some reason).
Anyway after spending 2 years in Sydney, we got married. We decided on the old double wedding, in Brighton and then reception in Sydney !
A few people came across to Sydney but unfortunatley my parents were too old to make it.
And now we have our first kid on the way, we are going back to Sydney to live.
Now the worst thing about being married to an Aussie girl : every time she talks about 'soccer' - makes me mad !!
Its F O O T B A L L !!!!
If I start calling it soccer then someone shoot me !!

Hi everyone.....this is pretty cool...people with something in common as me!
Well, I went out to Brisbane last November, to watch the first ashes test, as it happens, I knew a girl who I was friendly with off the simple minds site, we are both HUGE fans.
We met up, I stayed at her place and we got on really well. By the end of the 2 weeks, we had connected and though there were complications......ie the distance/ my impending divorce/ I have two kids......we worked it out so that she could come and spend some time here in the UK, and as she holds dual passports there was no problem on her half.
She arrived in February and we haven't looked back since! She gets on well with my kids and vice-versa, and she has put the smile back on my face!
We are going back to her place in November and I'll be applying for the defacto spouse relationship visa around xmas time. We meet all the requirements and I am busy collecting all the info required at the moment.
The only drawback being missing out on the football, I have to sell my season ticket to a mate (Birmingham City supporter) and the obvious one of missing kids / family etc.
So, Brisbane, November 27th, I will be there!
EDIT:
PS
Love you Sera!

I've already posted bits of my story, but can't ignore this thread, so (yawn if you like!!!) - went to Tassie to see an old friend, came home through Melbourne to go to the 2001 Grand Prix, toured the MCG the next day and found myself being chatted up by a guy from Brissie who'd been marshalling at the Race. Lots of chat, lots of beer, I came back to the UK and we kept in touch. Went back a year later to visit him, and fell head-over-heels in lurve. Two more visits since, met all his family, had a brilliant week in a posh apartment in Surfers Paradise, and then he proposed to me last November. Hes just gone home after 6 weeks in the UK, meeting my friends and family.
We are getting married in Brissie in January - no question about where - has to be a nice informal Aussie wedding, somewhere near the sea, with no fuss! If we did it here it would turn into a major event, and neither of us like being the centre of attention, so we just have to do it quietly over there. Shame my family can't come, but I think they will be better off saving for a decent holiday when they can spend more time with us. Likewise, there was never any question of which country to settle in - I loved Australia already, and I think we'll have a far better lifestyle there than here. Just suits us more.
Right I'll shut up now - don't expect theres anyone still listening though!
