I AM pleased that the police are going to try harder to reduce the appalling home burglary rate, but they are doomed to failure unless the real problem is addressed.
The lenient sentences handed down by the judiciary, which frees multiple repeat offenders to continue to offend, are the real problem. This demoralises the police when the offender they caught is released straight back on the streets.
Most burglaries are committed by juveniles and drug addicts. There is a relatively small number of multiple repeat offenders. If these offenders were kept locked up there would be a massive decline in offences both directly and in deterring others who would emulate them.
So the problem and the solution are the responsibility of the politicians, not the police. The judiciary must be forced to reflect community outrage and lock up the repeat offenders.

Do you know i think its really sad that people on here put down their country of birth , we like it here in perth , but i love england to , we just wanted a change in our lives , travel etc. Crime here is massive , you will never get away from it !! We have a local community paper and in it fortnightly they post the local suburbs on a police watch page ,we have these suburbs in the paper catchment area : conolly , currambine, duncraig , greenwood , hillarys , iluka , joondalup , kallaroo , kingsley , kinross , mullaloo , oceanreef , sorrento , woodvale , and a few more a total of 61 break ins in a fortnight , each fortnights paper is the same , thats not including the car thefts and graffiti damage. We came from a tiny village in the UK this is quite a eye opener some times i have to say , but we are ok , london -perth they are the same a city , its just one gets better weather . Down the road from us we have had a guy who slit his police girlfriends throat , a guy kicked to death at hillarys boat harbour . Crime will always be in the world , sadly you cant escape from it , even on Rottnest island some youths kicked to death 8 Quokas how sad is that !!!

Sorry to say Jo that a lot of problems here and the UK are caused by people who have no pride in their place of birth .
I dislike nationalism but to love your country shows that you have pride in yourself , those who run down their place of birth belong nowhere and are loved by no one.
