I've been following the forums for a long time now.
Over the last five years I've progressed from having a passing interest in emigrating to getting the skills and qualifications required, applying for the visa, getting it, visiting Australia and validating it and then making the decision to move out permanently.
My house is getting packed up next week and we will finally be moving to Brisbane in January to start our "new life down under".
I Just wanted to say thank you to everyone on the forum who has given me help and advice so far. This forum had been an invaluable source of information to me.
.. and to those of your just starting out on this journey - I'd like to say dont underestimate the time, effort and money required to make the switch "down under" - dreaming about it is one thing - doing it is quite another!
The best advice I can give is if you think you really want to start a new life in Australia - take it one step at a time.
Right now I'm somewhere between extreme excitement and absolute terror, will it all work out for the better?
- I'l let you know in a month or a year or two!

Hey iddy,
Good choice with sunny Brisbane but pack some sun cream (factor 30+). We've been here since March and the weather had just cooled down at that point, now that we've suffered through the winter here its back to the temperature of March...and rising.
Actually, winter here is very much like summer in the UK (except you get lots of sun
)
p.s. Good luck with the house hunting, the recession is pretty much over here and prices are going up (as are interest rates from the evil banks)
