Hi Khurram55,

Have you used the search function for this question at all because it does come up very regular.

You could have a look at realestate.com.au for cost of housing and try a virtual shop in coles or woolworths for cost of food shopping.

What is the size of your family, and where are you planning on living?

unless you own a property outright it seems that you need 1000 bucks a week just to tread water anywhere these days.

I own a property outright and $1000 a week is just about enough for my family of 5.

you are doing well for 5 of you, There are 3 of us and we have managed to get it down to about 750pw with no rent or mortgage, the big costs are food and phone, the electricity bills seem to be on a bell curve though, gone from around 300 per quarter to over 700 in the space of 2 years. we switched to a little bubble car last year after owning a 4wd and a magna for years, the difference in petrol costs is amazing.

I asked my son for $100 a week in rent when he got a full time job and he said "well if thats the case I will move out I can live on less than that!"
So when he moves out, rents a place, pays bills and feeds himself for less than $100 a week I will post and let everyone know :0
