Cost of living in Oz

Re: Cost of living in Oz
Our last electricity bill was $8 - but that included the Christmas break when we weren't at home whilst the sun pumped almost all our solar power back into the grid. Mind you, it will take many years of bills like that to make a dent into what it has cost to install all the panels!

Financially i would be far better off in the UK - income the same as i would continue working in Africa on the same salary. But, cost of living is cheaper generally and i would be tax exempt, so an automatic pay increase. But, for the time being, we want to stay in Oz

My electricity was about $400 for the quarter, three bed house. We are a bit worse off living here as we spent much bigger % of our income on accommodation. But we are not here for financial reasons, we are here for the experience.

One the great things about living in the UK is all the awesome, legal, tax avoidance that you can get away with - easy to do and the Inland Revenue are a shower of shit. Everyone is at it.
There are good ways to avoid tax here but you have to work harder to get them.

Where in Australia is petrol $1.62? In Brisbane it's currently $1.45: over the past few weeks I've seen it as high as $1.53 and down to $1.35. $1.62 or higher is the price you might expect in a remote town.

I earned £70k in england I earn $70k here and I honestly don't feel significantly worse off, would I go back to UK now for a £100k? no chance. Enjoyinglife amd trying to make the most of it. Sometimes this means not treating it like a business balance sheet and just living it!

I guess it all depends on your job and what it's demand and pay brackets are in different countries.
Of course if you drive a lot it may be hurting your pocket considerably. I know someone who drives from Tonbridge to Reading everyday for work and that's a considerable portion of their salary gone.
Of course that it offset if you passion is not driving.

Which leaves you with about $600 per week between the four of you for everything else. Do-able, but only just.

My retirement plan is excellent, when I'm to old to work I kill the most unpopular politician of the day. Immediate cult status for a cushy time in clink. Plead guilty straight away to save tax payers money on a trial & go directly to prison where I get three hot meals a day, free health care, colour T.V & internet access, fresh laundered sheets, immediate access to doctors, plenty of drugs & as much sex as an old man can handle No burden on my family or expensive nursing homes for me
The only downside is that now I've thought of it there'll be so many others at it Pollies will be a rare as rocking horse shit by the time I retire
