Unemployment figures to my mind are meaningless. Doesn't matter if we refer to UK or Australia, or anywhere else, although one can only guess what the true figures must be in Spain, where officially they quote it at something like 24%.

I always admired the term seasonably adjustered, when they quote figures. A fine example of creative accounting if ever there was.

Under International Labor Organization definitions, for you to be considered "unemployed" you must be "actively looking for work.". Hence if you've given up job hunting, you are technically not a participant and you're removed from both the numerator and denominator in the unemployment rate.

Creative accounting definitely exists. Ask a Goldman Sachs trader.

Indeed. But most folk I know take it on board themselves in the job hunting field and don't regester as unemployed, hence there is no record of them being jobless.

Of course. ONS, ABS, etc use "scientific random sampling" for determining unemployment. They don't have an unemployment register for the whole population.

Come on, you can't just post that and leave, we need statistics about the likelihood of Jesus Christ being on a bike.

You're a Standard Deviation from a Bell Curve.

You, on the other hand, require a Linear Regression.

No look at the GS employees that helped Greece hide their debt to get into the Euro.

Yeah you might find the unemployment number by itself suspicious. BUT when you look at it and the employment rate, the truth becomes evident. The employment number is not a source of fiddling as it does not depend on whether a country has lavish unemployment benefits or not. http://www.eupedia.com/forum/showthr...ates-in-the-EU
