Cost of Childcare
Quick question...
What is the average daily cost for child care in Oz?
Do most parents send their children to daycare every day?

Re: Cost of Childcare
We pay $134 a day for 2 of them (both under 3, cheaper when they are over 3) and it would be $460 for them for the week - so quite a saving for doing a full 5 days, they only do 2 at the moment.

Re: Cost of Childcare
I would say average child care cost around $75/day per child, slightly more for younger kid, but in smaller towns there are places that charge under $50/day and in the large cities it can come close to $100/day.
Last year we spent more than $40K on child care for two kids! But we hope to get 50% back from the child care tax rebate...
I think a lot of parents stay at home with their kids as it's costs more to have them in child care than they make from working. I've heard several examples of people only making around $20 a day from going to work, after tax and child care.

2006 Child Care Fees (before rebates)
Long day care centres:
Family day care schemes:

A federal report in 2008 showed a 10% increase on gross average child care costs from 2006 to 2008, pushing those figures up.
But I also saw that in the 12 months ended March 2009, the NET cost of Child care decreased by 18.5% due to the increase to the Child Care Tax Rebate that was implemented in 2008.
Long day care centres:
- National average fee was $233 pw.
- The most expensive State was the ACT at $265 pw.
- The lowest cost states were the Northern Territory and Queensland at $214 pw.

We pay $60 per day in Manly, Sydney but we have to provide our own meals. Previous place we had our son was $71 per day, it is slightly more for a younger child/baby, our son is 4. As we are on a 457 Temp Business Visa we are not entitled to any benefits.

Re: Cost of Childcare
This is an informative thread. We won't be entitled to any help and I was worrying that the fees would be expensive however, we currently pay £37 per day (for everything) for our Son so it isn't as scarey as I thought!

Not necessarily a wise move though to be converting in your head what you are paying now in the UK versus what you will be paying in Aus. After all, once you are in Aus you will not be earning GBPs. 37 quid at the moment is only $75, which is what some people on this thread are already paying. The chances are that you will be earning less here than you will be in the UK.
