Contraceptive Pill Availability
Hi guys
Does anyone know if the POP Cerazette is available here yet?
It wasn't when I went to the docs 18 months ago. I don't wanna pay to see a GP if they're just going to tell me "no"!
Tried getting in touch with my GP at home to see if they would send me some. It was a nearly... but a "no" in the end.
I've tried a few different pills and Cerazette works the best for me, so I would rather not have to change!
Thanks in advance for any pearls of wisdom!

Why not pop in to the Pharmacist here and ask them if they stock it / or get it in if prescribed or call healthdirect

It was just easier to ask here as I'm at work at the mo!
I have a feeling it's not going to be available
Pollyana - do you know if it's Noriday that is the alternative?

Re: Contraceptive Pill Availability
In my case I was allergic to oestrogen and cerazette was the only one that didn't cause violent reactions, so once I knew I couldn't get that it wasn't worth persisting.

Re: Contraceptive Pill Availability
I had a look at this, to try and see if this pill is available in Australia under another name, but couldn't find it, or its ingredient (Desogestrel) available in Australia. Here are some links that might give you more info about this type of pill:
http://www.mydr.com.au/babies-pregna...ogen-only-pill
http://www.mja.com.au/public/issues/...or10744_fm.pdf
I also found this link (but you probably have to be very careful using online pharmacies, especially if based overseas) that seems to say that Cerazette originates from NZ:
http://pharmacy.around-world.biz/drugs/Cerazette.html
There are progesterone only pills (POP) available in Australia, but with a different synthetic form of progesterone than Cerazette. It is possible that there is a link between POPs and emergency contraception (eg morning-after pills) and there has been huge resistance in some quarters.

I did read something about Marvelon and also that Cerazette is available in NZ. I have made an appointment at the Family Planning Clinic for next week, so hopefully they will be able to shed some more light on the situation!
I can't have the combined pill, it has to be POP. Anyone any other suggestions on good contraception available here, as I am willing to move away from oral contraceptives!
Obviously I would have to speak to a GP, but be good to hear some reviews!
Anyone bought it from overseas? Not sure how I feel about that!
Thanks again for the feedback

Re: Contraceptive Pill Availability
You probably could still get the drug if you paid for it. My friend has a drug that she has to pay for but it does cost her $150 a month.
Family planning clinic will be able to help and they have all the info, sure you are not the only one who would need this type of medication in Australia
My daughter has to take a medication which her specialist has to approve for her as she cannot take the one recommended on the pbs just means he has to phone Canberra every time she needs it.
