Default Container question - items made from Seagrass

I think it is called seagrass? I have a magazine rack and some baskets that I keep the DVDs and other bits in..

Does anyone know, of hand, if I am allowed to import these in with my stuff in our container?

I might just bring them and mark them in a "Q" box if necessary! LOL! (tho OH is reluctant incase they charge us stupid $$$'s to burn them!)

If yous do a search on "Seagrass ", previous posters have asked the same question. From what I remember it's usually a No.You have to declare items, not just label a box as Quarantine, so they will see the items on the list. To be honest, if they are just replaceable items and not of sentimental value, don't risk having to pay the destruction cost and just replace them here

I've been told a big fat no to my seagrass baskets etc by removal companies. It's just not worth the risk and cost of fumigation/treatment etc - it's a huge amount. I'm donating ours to family.

Seems to me that the general rule is that is not allowed, but if packed and labelled "correctly", ie, magazine rack, vase, then customs don't flag it?

I think I am not going to bother bringing mine over... just wish I had bought the leather style ones instead of the seagrass now (they are quite newish)..

Ah well.. ce la vie and all that! or is it "no worries mate" now?! LOL!
