computer acting weird?!

i know a lot of people are getting hit by this trojan horse thing including me so can any of you computer guys tell me why we are all getting it and what is its nature,will it cause major damage or is it just a pain in the bum.about 2 months ago i had our computer completely wiped clean like starting all over again then had to re load windows and adobe etc etc because our comp had parasites and everything was running mega slow but within a week we still got hit by trojan horse,everyday i run avg to check for virus but it still comes up......all i want to know is what is trojan and the likes all about.

One thing I do, when I have to hit blackhat and other sites of ill repute to grab the latest hacker tools, is use a virtual machine that I can easily wipe out and reconstruct without contaminating my main system(s).
