We used to live at Loganlea (which you would probably have to pass through or close to to get to the CBD) & it used to take Dagboy 45 mins to an hour in normal everyday traffic in rush hour (7-9am & 5-6pm) to get to the CBD & back. If there was an accident on the SE Freeway add more time. Tamborine (the north part anyway) is around half an hour further so add that on & your commute could be up to 1½ hrs on an average day.
Offpeak times you could probably get to the city in around an hour.
Andrew63 lives at Tanamerah, he may be able to shed more light on commute times from there, its been 2 years since we lived down that way, things may have improved (but then again that may be wishful thinking too )

Would that be by car or train?
I know that there are a lot of people on the GC who commute to Brisbane by train.

From Tanah Merah to Bulimba (close to Oxford St) during rush hour will now take about 35 mins driving within the speed limit providing there is no rain/car crashes/breakdowns or anything else on the freeway that makes idiots want to stop and gawp.

Its is lovely - you should go, take the kids. Last time we went, we sat up on a little cafe, overlooking the whole coast area and watching handgliders go off the edge
The OP should be aware (if they weren't already) that Bulimba is the southside of the river, and the CBD is the north. Add an extra 10mins on to that time, and probably another 20-30mins for the Tanah Merah to Tamborine travel. So as MrsDB said, about an hour travel time with no probs.

Re: Commuting from Tamborine area?
If you mean Tamborine village which is at the foot of Tamborine mountain. I used to drive to Beenleigh train station (15 - 20mins) and take the train to Brisbane's CBD (Express takes about 40mins), although I understand from colleagues who regularly commute from the Gold Coast that even the Express stops at a lot more stations these days. Check www.translink.com.au for train times and costs.

We live on top of Tamborine mountain. There are 3 'villages' up here - North Tamborine and Eagle Heights at the northern end; Mount Tamborine at the southern. Tamborine, the village, is at the bottom of the northern end. It takes up to 15 minutes to drive from the southern to northern end of the mountain, about 15 minutes to get down to the village and 20 more to Beenleigh.
In ideal conditions we can drive from Eagle Heights to Brisbane CBD in an hour. It's not an easy drive, especially in the dark.
Hope this helps

Thanks to all of you for your valuable input. We will be moving to that area in around 2 months time. That was a big help. Thanks again.
