Cleaning advice needed - dead boring!
Need some advice please.
Our rental has a large FMK area with a tiled floor - guessing stone tiles. They're not polished like the ones in the hall, anyway.
I've been keeping the floor swept nearly every day, and vacuumed once or twice a week, but the floor is definitely in need of some sort of wash. There are various food stains on it, tea stains, the usual day-to-day accidents that you often don't notice until they have left a mark.
I'm not sure of the best way to do this. I can't use anything too *chemical* because of the cats and the dog. They'd lick it, no doubt! Can't be too *foamy* because I'd never get rid of the bubbles. Needs to be effective but mild. Instinct tells me that a bucket and scrubbing brush would be best, but tbh it's such a huge area and I'm so inherently lazy, the old hands and knees job is a bit daunting... I've got one of those microfibre mops which is good on the polished tiles but I don't think it would have any effect on these rougher tiles. Squeezee mop isn't worth trying - pad would rip on the surface, I think.
Anyone got any inspired ideas for me? I've never had to clean a stone floor before. Is there any alternative to the old bucket and scrubbing brush? Thought my scrubbing days were over....

Hi Sue,
What about a steam mop? no chemicals needed.might be a bit harder for the mop to glide across the floor but maybe there will be some sort of special attachment for concrete tiles

I, on the other hand, have a degree in mopping floors. I also like my house to smell like a hospital, so I use really strong disinfectant ( something like pine-o-clean, but only diluted half as much as recommended)when I'm mopping the floor with a good Vileda mop. The dog doesn't seem to mind the smell too much, and he isn't dead yet despite licking the floor and eating food off it, so it can't be that bad for him.
