For a while there the greenies wanted people to burn trees for heat since wood is renewable. Now they don't like it, just like they don't like burning fossil fuels, or the use of dams or nuke power to generate energy despite the fact both of these generate no "greenhouse gases". Seems the greenies won't be happy 'til we're back living in caves, shivering in the dark.

Please explain. What's a Wood Burner ?, some kind of heating system ?, surely not. I thought burning wood for heating went out with the ark. In South Africa a lot of Black people have wood burning stoves because they can't afford anything else of have no electricity & the pollution they cause is terrible.

An over blown pot belly stove , as you say it's very old fashioned and causes bad polution problems.
Gas is far cleaner and cheaper than wood burners but the locals are slow learners.

How is gas cheaper than what I pay for wood which is nothing? Seems you're the slow learner. Free wood is the reason people use wood heaters, as well as the fact that people like sitting in front of a fire. While you pay for your heat, smart people get it for free.

Speaking of free energy, I hear the Brits are still heating their water with fossil fuels. How primitive. Haven't they heard of solar energy?

An open fire is nice, but if everyone is doing it & messing up the air quality, then that is not so nice. We have a gas fuelled open fire, so you get the flames without the smoke. Some people do have solar heating, but it's not widespread.

It's pretty short sighted to see the use of wood burning heaters as backward. People pay a lot to have the things installed in a move away from using electricity which is coal power produced in much of Australia. Wood burning doesn't cause acid rain like coal does. It's also the cheapest and most efficient heating, and as I said, mostly free. The only drawback is the pollution, but most heaters operate at night when it's cold and when everyone has their windows shut. By morning, the wood smoke is gone. It's not a big problem.

Wood here in the City is in short suppy most buy it in , the biggest causes of smoke polution is un -seasoned wood.

ENVIRONMENTAL authorities have failed to implement measures to curb smog-causing domestic wood fires flagged five years go.

Under the plan, more than 120,000 Perth home owners would have been be hit with fines and levies in a bid to beat the city's air pollution problem.

The idea came from a 1998 parliamentary inquiry into the effects of wood-fired heaters on air pollution.

If the plan had been implemented, more than a quarter of WA households - 120,000 in the city and 87,000 in the country - which have wood fires would have been affected.

Ban electric heating which is highly inefficient and burns fossil fuels to generate it.

Hey moron, the greenies want to cut the amount of water used in the scheme. Besides that, there aren't enough damable rivers in Australia for our energy needs. Where is the hydroelectric dam near Perth? You use polluting electric power in Perth, not any produced by the bloody Snowy mountains scheme. Who's thick?

Sea power, wind power ( bloody windy here)you have a limited mind , you must be an Aussie.
Wales has a Hydro dam that refills itself at night and powers the national grid by day, the water is pumped back upto the top when power is not required at night.

You're living in fantasy land. I'm talking about now, not some possible future. Get real, if you know anything about the energy a city the size of Perth uses you will know it is not feasable or practical to power it with wave or wind power. If it was we'd be doing it already. You're thinking about what might be and constantly whinging about things as they are without ever making an effort to change things. You must be British. I'm talking about the power you use right now. Your electric power doesn't come from wind, waves or even the Snowy scheme. You use power generated by coal burning power plants outside Perth. For the amount of energy used you generate more pollution that is worse for the environment but you concentrate on people with wood heaters because the pollution you help create is out of sight out of mind.

You're complaining about a bit of wood smoke but back in Britain they discharge radioactive coolant into the Irish Sea. I suppose that too was out of sight and out of mind for you.
