Re: Citizenship Tests
I recently sat the full 60 question test as part of a focus group run by ACER. I can tell you that unless you can't read English or haven't done a little studying or lived here for a while, it will be very, very easy.
I was given a 4 page document to read a few days before the test and this covered most of the questions, not sure if all applicants will be given reading material before their real tests though. |

Lets hope you are right!!

Re: Citizenship Tests
Make sure you read up on the Australian flag, Federation, arrival of the first fleet and the different levels of government. ;)

Re: Citizenship Tests
So it is confirmed the tests start on 01Oct07 as per the updated immi website. I went to the Brisbane office at lunchtime to check if I could book a test prior to my eligibility date (15Oct07), there were no objections so I booked it! We will be one of the first to take the test on the morning of October 1st, not sure if that is much to cheer about, having to now pay double (there is no payment to be made on test day, only with the full application). The guys in the office were a bit 'green' about the new process, the email confirmations of appointments weren't working, so I just hope the software is working on the day.
I also asked about the UK marriage certificate and whether we need to visit the Oz RBDM. It appears that so long as my wife has her married name in the passport we present, along with all the other doco (utility bills, QLD drivers licence etc) we will not require any more than the original marriage cert. So, as it stands, take the test on 01Oct07, put application and pay on 15Oct07, strong possibility of making the Australia Day ceremony 26Jan08 , according to the Immi guys. Hope this helps......... |

Yup, this is annoying. Actually I was a bit frustrated with the Immigration folks on the phone this week - I called twice only to speak to two people who seemed to have difficulty in communicating in English with me (honestly!). I felt like I wasn't getting the 'true' story (or much sense) so I called back a third time and fortunately got a very nice Aussie lass who gave us a cancelled appointment this Friday - so I'm made up. Saved us a heap of money and we don't have to take the test ;) Now she reckoned, that definitely things were changing on September 17th - said they were geared up for it and ready to go....

Re: Citizenship Tests
We lodged ours on the 17th and we haven't got to do the test.

Re: Citizenship Tests
This statement on the immi website has got me a bit confused and I must admit that's not difficult before you all come back and give me a pounding.....what do you reckon I need to pay??
However, if you are required to successfully complete a test to be eligible for citizenship, and reapply for citizenship within three (3) months of the date on which you become residentially qualified, your application fee will be $120 rather than $240. I have my test on 01Oct and can then file the application on 15Oct as that's my 2 year's up (no visit's overseas or other complications). |
Re: Citizenship Tests
Typically about as clear as mud to me!!!

Re: Citizenship Tests
We applied for citizenship the day after being here 2 years which was the
10th Sept. They contacted us with an interview date of the 26th Sept. We won't have to do the test and we've only paid £120 each for me and hubby, daughter doesn't pay anything. We were also concerned about having to get my name changed legally even though we're married and we were told not to bother because it all depends who you see on the day as to how strict they are about it. Aslong as my passport that holds my visa is in my married name there isn't usually a problem. Marie |

I think that comment refers to a little known concession in the rules that if you are refused citizenship solely for not meeting the residence requirement, you do not have to pay the A$120 again if you apply within 3 months of being residentially qualified.
