Try telling that to the families of all the dead Tiananmen square massacre victims or the thousands of Tiebetans slaughtered and tortured. "Tremendous freedoms", try googling " Tibet" or Tianamen square massacre on the Chinese internet.

Every major nation has it's dark side, Just depends what side of history you want to view.
Have you ever wondered why some radical Muslims in the Middle east are so upset with the West for instance ?

I guess you would have to actually be taught in one of those Countries to fully understand the reasons though.

I remember these kind of references, when the end of the world was supposed to hit Hong Kong.

I blame the British expat chavers that keep coming to Australia.

What a joke post... not a brutal dictatorship !! Just the "few activists" going missing each year is OK then?.
You're taking the piss surely? You be sure to let me know just as soon as those Chinese folks get to start voting for an opposition party. Then we might start believing such the rest of the bollocks you posted.

Last time I was in Tiannanmen square, I had a rather nice latte and bought a nice furry hat for my kids.
Interesting you raise googling it, you live in a country that is about to enact a filter for web content and wont tell you what they will filter. Sound familiar?
Perhaps since Ive spent a lotof time in china, know a hell of a lot of chinese people who live there, work there, and live here and work here, I can pass on a little bit of insight rather than regurgitate the rubbish that is in news.com.au websites.
And yes - i do firmly think its a pile of crap that Chinese money is directly responsible for the high house prices in Australia. There are 22 million people in this country and for a chinese 'invasion' of house purchasing to have an effect would mean they would have to be statistically meaningful buying up something like 15-20% of the houses...really.........
how about what we learned as 11 yr olds at school -statistical analysis, identifying the source, alternate sources of information. Nah far easier to just believe whatever tosh is put up on some news website.... go for yer life.

Those couple of sentences are enough to negate anything else you have to say on the subject.

If you think it was "crap sensationalist journalism" then I suggest you get right on to ABC and the Federal Government with your complaints because they seem to be repeating the same story.

It's a crap story (all they're doing is reviewing 50 purchases where the buyers gave overseas addresses - but that proves nothing, as there are several categories of non-resident that may buy Aussie property without restriction, and a foreign contact address doesn't show non-residency) and it's reported crappily (Australian states that "foreigners are buying up Australian homes and pricing locals out of the market" is an "emerging trend" but doesn't say shows this).
Elections are coming, Rudd is being accused of being soft on Teh Foreigners, this is a puff story that lets Rudd and Plibersek look like BSDs without the inconvenience of actually having to do anything.

I thought it was only me that observed, acknowledged, understood the Federal,State and Murdoch Government in blaming the Chinese for 100% of Housing price rises.
Maybe, just maybe,a lot of other factors are involved? And the Chinese influence,so 0.25% of last weeks Auctions are the only reason why your kids can't afford a house with a 50"LCD and the latest HSV Commodore when they are 19?

Whatever happens the Chinese are obviously going to become more and more influential in the Australian and global arenas. Welcome your superpower allies with open arms......

Oh, God, this topic has just been trailed on Channel 7's tabloid news show. Expect another wave of this foreigner-bashing nonsense.
