Children (to be) taught to deal with bushfires
"CHILDREN will be taught to prepare for bushfires while Aborigines will instruct on traditional burning techniques under recommendations in a long-awaited report into bushfire management."
Prime Minister John Howard today released the report of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) national inquiry on bushfire mitigation and management, nine months after receiving it.
The inquiry made 29 recommendations to improve bushfire preparedness across Australia, including the introduction of building standards for bushfire prone areas.
