Cheltenham/Mentone Area, Melboure - Schools, Transport and Lifestyle

Cheltenham/Mentone Area, Melboure - Schools, Transport and Lifestyle
We are moving to Melbourne (Subject to getting 457 Visa sorted this week) in August. We have been looking on line at rentals in Cheltenham and Mentone. Anyone out their with feedback on schools, Transport (he needs to commute to city daily). Also what will Elaine do all day while the girls are at school (15,11,10). Also is their any Tae Kwon Doe schools in the area - Elaine and the girls are all Black belts.
Last thing for now - Banking and credit history - do the banks in Australia recognize our current credit history ??? Want to buy a car with Finance.

In terms of banking and credit history Oz Banks do not recognise UK credit history unfortunately
However I think lenders are less concerned with credit history than those in the UK. As long as you are in work and can demonstrate that you can afford the car then you should probably be fine. Thats how it worked for us and we are on a 457 at the moment as well.

There is a station withing walking distance of all these schools and great bus links. The bay is within walking distance, so your wife could join the many cyclists, joggers and walkers there every day. Southland shopping centre is only minutes away too.
Maybe your wife could get a casual job, or maybe do some voluntary work. It will help her to settle to have a purpose and to be out and about meeting people.
Get a dog - it gives you an excuse to talk to everyone !
