Cathay Pacific-flight info-help needed
Hi Guys,
Just been on the Cathay Pacific website to get genned up on prohibited items and baggage allowance and come away more confused!!
We are flying from Manchester to Heathrow-Heathrow to Hong Kong-Hong Kong to Adelaide.
Can someone answer me this...I have a lap top to bring on of my hand luggage however as I'm 'transiting' through heathrow I am not allowed to have anything additional..either hand luggage or laptop?? Is this correct?
Can I just pay for the laptop at check in and if so how much would it cost??
Jeez, its been quite a while since we flew long haul..so very very hazy and need confirmation.
Thanks in advance guys.

I don't have the answer but I am also Manchester - Heathrow - Hong Kong and then Melbourne. I would also like to know about the lap top because otherwise I will have to put it in my suitcase. I thought you could take the laptop as extra hand baggage as long as it was in a slimline brief case.
We travelled Edinburgh-Heathrow-Hong Kong-Perth and return in March this year.
We were permitted to carry our laptop as an additional item of hand luggage.

Only hassle we had was the laptop had to be removed from it's bag when we went through the scanners, otherwise no problems at all.
Hope this helps,
Dennis

It looks as if Manchester has recently lifted the one bag rule, so you can now take your laptop as well as one other item of hand luggage.
Heathrow also allows laptops to go as hand lugagge so you'll be fine.
The rules at present in the UK for hand luggage are based on the security arrnagements at the departure airport. Make sure you check with the individual airport as airline sites may not be 100% up to date.

We did the same route in January and were fine with a laptop as extra hand luggage.

Big thanks to everyone who has replied so far. My qualm was the lap top has to be in slim line case. My case is a bit bulkier so you can put peripherals like headphones etc in it, so I was worried they'd say no way you must pay!
We're flying on the 1st of December. but best wishes and happy flying to you NiknAid for the 23rd. We got no stop overs barring the usual 6 hours+ wait at HK, so when we reach Adelaide we'll be a tad pooped to say the least.
I haven't experienced jet lag since 2005 so I guess this will be like coming back to a pair of your old trusty old slippers......except these are the ones you got from your mother in law you hated, had holes in em and didn't keep your feet warm!

It also said slim line when we went, but as we only had 20kg each and were not shipping anything ours had the wireless router and all sorts in with it, it was as big as my hand luggage bag.

Be sure to check the airport websites closer to the day you fly as well. Security is changing all the time, so what's allowed today may not be tomorrow.

security in Singapore made me take mine out of its bag to xray and then switch it on! So good tip is to make sure you have some charge left and hibernate it so powers up quicker to get u through security! Suppose they are checking its not full of dubious electronics! Frustrating i know but its for our safety!

Also, he uses a large laptop bag, must be 5-6" across, usually packed full of gadgets, and has always been fine (incl at Manchester in Sept), but yes agree - check with airline and airport close to travel time.
