We are due in Perth next January and will require a car for 3 weeks. Is it best to book car hire now or wait until nearer the arrival date for a better rate.

Hard to know which is the best- sometimes they have last minute stand-by rates so very close to the time in person is the best. However you may risk not getting a car at all if it is holiday season or something.

Try vroomvroomvroom.com.au a good comparison web site for the major car rentl companies- but not Bayswater and some smaller companies. No upfront money is needed and if you do better on the spot with another company nothing is lost.

When heading from Oz to Europe I have always booked the car through an Australian online agency before leaving and got better deals than booking in the UK or Europe - does the same apply in the other direction?

HI

I have hired a car several times when visiting Perth. ( I am originally from Perth)

To be honest your best bet is to search using expedia.co.uk and then open and use use expedia.com.au.
Open a currency convertor at the same time so you can do an exchange comparision. You will be suprised that exactly the same car on exactly the same site will cost you much less when you use the UK site and pay in pounds . ( Do the currency conversion check first)

We have also used Eurocar.co.uk and compared it against Eurocar.com.au . We saved the equivalent of $300 by doing it this way , paying in pounds on the UK site.

Believe me ...I was as suprised as the next person. My family in Perth we not able to get it as cheap as we did using uk sites .

Hope this make sense!

Hope this helps !

Better rates are available if you don't go in January, as that's a peak time as kids are on hols. Bayswater do a very good deal, only issue is if you need something bigger than a Corolla.
