helloo.when we move to australia we have been told to live near the college that my boyfriend will be going to which is in cannington.we were just wondering if this is a nice place to live or if we should look into renting somewhere else and then travelling to the college. If there are any nice areas round cannington that we would be better off living in then please suggest them as I have no idea!!!
Thankyou.

Im studying at murdoch uni in a couple of weeks and were moving to bertram which is further out and got a brand new 4 x 2 house for $300 (bond $1800)a week and a nice nice big garden, you may want to try there as its a new suburb, cannington might be expensive to rent or you will get a smaller place.
The further you live away from perth the cheaper but also more travel time to get to where you want to go.
try www.realestate.com.au and reiwa.com for rentals, about 90% are on there and also look at google map to see surrounding suburbs which are there, we done this from the UK and we choose perfectly as its cheaper renting and also a 15min drive to uni at murdoch and looks like a decent suburb, pick up the keys tomorrow for the house.

Cannington = shithole. But that's just my opinion. The only thing going for it is Carousel!

Train line runs through it so easy to get into the city. One of the largest shopping centres (Carousel).Very close to all major freeways as they interlink.
Areas around there would be Manning,Vic Park,Carlisle,Queens park.If he is going to TAFE at Carlisle then the train stops right there, you would need to be rail side of Albany h'way or it can be a fair hike.Burswood is on the rail line so you could stay there.Nothing wrong with the place. You will not be short of a car yard to buy a car.

A friend suffered multiple break-ins and ended up moving North (can't remember which street in Cannington, in fairness it was a couple of years ago). I've been set upon at the train station before, the natives are known to cause dramas at the shopping centre and last year it was the scene of a mini riot:

It does tend to jade you and I realise it was an overgeneralisation of the area as a whole. However I've not had too many positive experiences of certain areas of the place generally.

Nothing wrong with Cannington.Like all the close to city suburbs the old wooden houses have been replaced by 3 or more villas on the block.Probably difficult to find anything over 10 yrs old.

not being a snob or anything but i wouldnt choose cannington as a place to live, parts of it are light industrial areas, there are lots of homeswest type housing areas there, dunno just not picturesque or green if you know what i mean
vic park is really close and much nicer or manning isnt too bad either, i live in como and go to cannington carousel all the time for shops takes me about 15mins
it will all depend on if you will have a car or have to use public transport in which case make sure you are close to a bus route or train station

My security instructor was a former transit guard and have several friends who are in so hear frequent horror stories!
Buses are ok unless you're the poor sod sat next to the window that is shattered by a rock attack or get someone pulling a knife inside the bus then fatally stabbing a random person outside the bus after asking them for cigarettes... and no that wasn't in Cannington.
