I seem to be having a few problems with my computer.
I have windows xp (home thingy) Sorry not to good with computers!
and I normally use msn for my emails and go onto internet explorer when I'am using the net.
Something strange is happening, I turn on the computer, it dials up the internet connection and I go into msn, all's ok till I try and go onto the 'e' icon for the explorer. A mesage comes up that says it has got a problem and I have to report it, its an error report (!?) I have tried and tried to get into it but it won't let me! I have scanned the computer for viruses and found nothing.
I recently put Microsoft office onto the computer could this be the cause of the problem? Not sure if it was coming up 'error reprt' before I installed Office?
Sorry to sound do stupid (but I am!) but can anyone help????

try opening 'my computer'
go to the view menu -> toolbars, and select address bar (ie make sure it is checked - if you uncheck it the next bit won't work)
This will bring up the 'address' bar in your 'my computer' window. This basically turns your 'my computer' window into a browser.
In the address bar type an internet address and press enter.
If that works as per normal and takes you to a website, then you can go to the microsoft website and try downloading and reinstalling internet explorer.
Or you could just surf the web forever using that roundabout method.
might not work, but try it anyway.
(and how you reading this forum with no web browser!)

Hi,
You best bet is to re-install internet exploer, but give this a try first
Go START>SETTING>CONTROL PANNEL then into Add\Remove programs and select internet exploer there should give you a "Repair" option, give this a try. may fix it.

C:\Documents and Settings\*Darren*\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
* for Darren substitute your username/login name, if you have one ,or "default user and delete the contents of that folder but not the cookies. Then try opening Internet Explorer. If you use the internet a lot this folder can become so large it cause IE to break.

onion196: I didn't have the repair option on the add/delete programmes bit ?
Dazzac: I did this but still didn't work? deleted history and temp files etc.
Scottalispn6: I tried just clicking dont send but again the error report came up, time and time again!?
I have been using MSN explorer to browse the internet , thats how I've managed to get on here, I just like to use Internet Explorer rather than MSN, my Outlook Express has been wierd since all this started happening too?
So I tried to download Explorer 6 from the Microsoft website which seemed to be going well until I came to click on the icon. It said that I already had a more updated version so it couldn't install it!!!!!!!!!!! ARGGHHHHHHHHH:scared:
I'am just no good with these things and find it all so frustrating!!!! I think I will have to get someone round to take a look cause hubby is about as good as our dog when it comes to computers (and me for that matter!)
Thanks a lot anyway you lot!!

Hi ya Janeray,
Pain in the backside these things anyway.
First the error reporting. MS defaults XP to report every software abnormal termination. Who knows what information they get in the report (you could find out if you really wanted). Go to My Computer, click the Advanced tab and then click the Error Reporting button at the bottom of the panel. You should see a Disable Error Reporting radio button. Just click that and click OK. That should get rid of the error reporting.
Now IE. When you install IE information is set up in the Windows registry to record the version number amongst other things. When you try to reinstall the system knows it's got the same version already installed so you get that message. Try this
sfc /scannow. You'll need your XP installation disk.
There are other options so post back if this doesn't work.
