Hello
am just thinking of getting the tent to clean it before packing and wondered what the majority do in Oz. Do you use 'standard' family tent or do most use a 'trailer tent'. The only real benefit that i can see is that with a trailer tent you are off the ground. Is there a problem on the camp sites with lots of creepy things?!

this caravan park is in northern NSW near Byron Bay, about 1.5 hours south of Brisbane. Great beach right in front of park, very good toilets etc. I go there once a month and love it. $25 for unpowered site and $29 for power, hope this gives you some ideas bout camping near Brissy

quite alot of people sleep in swags, and ey they are bloody good, camper trailers are great if you get a 4wd one but can be expensive depends on what you want and they are a bit different , but it all depends on where and how far your going, camping stoves are so cheap here as most camping stuff is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its a bit like sleeping in a coffin though if you do that and the issue of getting dressed in the morning and you should always use a tarp over them to stop dew.
I've done the swag thing and personally I'm going back to my tent. We're heading outback in July for just over a week so temperatures then can drop down to 0C at night (-7 in the simpson), usually 24+C days.
The only thing I would really say is that you can get a lot of cheap tents in Australia. However, you do pay for what you get of course and if your going to be camping all year round (winter is the best time to go touring) then a model which can handle the night time cold but can be opened up with plenty of ventilation for the heat too, not cook you have have lots of mesh to stop the mozzies.
I use a Sierra Designs Omega convertible from 3 to 4 season tent from the USA. Its probably overkill but I cant stand being cold and it enables me to pretty much camp any time of the year.

There are all sorts of people.
The ones who bring a tiny tent just big enough to get one person and a spare pair if nickers in.
Then there are the ones who spend all day building a small village.

Hope to see you soon

We have a nice big 10 man tent for the two if us.... just enough room for the beer and goon! We were out during those mental storms this summer and never felt a drop inside, even without a tarp. Some of the sites mentioned on this thread look good, I reckon we might check 'em out.
I found if you drink the full slab it really doesn't matter about the bugs and creepys, the guy ropes become the main threat
