is campervan/caravan an option?
just wondering if anybody has bought a campervan or caravan to live in as a temporary option before renting or buying a house?
would this cause problems registering for banks and health care because of no fixed abode, or you could you use the caravan park address as your address?

With the amount they charge for site fees these days (especially in sydney) you'd be better off in a 1bdr apartment.

Yep, I agree. whilst our house was being built, we toyed with the idea of renting one of those static caravans, nothing flash, very very basic. The cost per week was I think about $180.00. We ended up renting a 2 bedroom unit for $150 per week. After 12 months in the unit, we had just about had enough, so we are so glad we didnt opt for the van.

Hi there, we thought about doing this too. You wouldn't be tied to renting a property and you could just move on if we didn't like the area or if we were unable to get a job. Has anyone else done this? We are going to the Sunshine Coast.

We thought of this option as well.
I'm waiting to hear some more. Does anyone know about Perth?

We ended up buying a caravan to live in when we first got here, but it was mainly because we were doing a road trip from Brisbane to Perth and got sick of living in a tent very very quickly! We found the campsites very good and pretty cheap (around $15-$20 a night) but then all we needed was a patch of grass and a plug point! Towing a 26ft van half way round Australia was an adventure in itself and was definitely a great way to see a bit of the country before we settled down. "Snail" (as we called him) is now up for sale as we are happily settled in a rental in Perth.
If you are worried about postal address just set up a post box, we did this when we first arrived and you can use that for most things. If you do need a residential address a receipt from the campsite is usually sufficient, as long as it has your names on it.
