calling all hairdressers in Perth!
Hi,
just wanted to ask all those in the hair industry, what is the average weekly wage out in wa,working in a salon?
I expect it to be less than britian but i'm trying to estimate budgets for living expenses etc, any ideas?
Also how much does a salon out there charge for foils with cut and blowdry, 2 colours?
any advise?
Lynn

Hi Lynn
I am a hairdresser but i live in NSW so don't know if this info is any good to you. The award wage for a full time (38hrs) hairdresser in NSW is about $450 to bring home. You get 4 weeks paid holiday public holidays and 60 hrs sick leave per year.
I work in a salon in a shopping centre which tend to charge a little more for services due to high rent etc. So a colour cut and 6 foils is about $110 give or take depending on hair length thickness and so on. Hope this helps.

re.hairdressers wages
Thanx Debbie jo,
this is very useful information to me and much appreciated.
I have been in the industry for 19 years, most of which has been salon work but i have,in the last 4 years, been providing salon work in homes.
I got myself insured and joined a freelance federation here in the uk,and regularly attend training programmes to keep up with it all,is there potential of this type of business in oz surburbia?

I was out there last year and found a hairdresser trading from home. She had set a little salon in her garage (garages out there are a lot bigger than here) Shew gets loads of business and so I'm sure there will be a demand for mobild hairdressers. There are mobile everythin else including mobile dog washers I'm sure you'll do fine as a hairdresser.
I'm from Newcastle so if you go ahead let me know as I am sure a hairdresser from Northumberland would go down a treat with all the geordie expats out there (myself included come September)

re.freelancing
thanx marie,
i would love to do what i'm doing now,but in the Perth area.
The situation here is that everyone wins because I can provide a complete salon service i.e.foils,etc(except no dreadlocking and extensions, haven't got a clue!) but because i have less overheads,I can charge the customers less.
Also,I can work the hours around my family instead of working when kids are at home.
The customers win and i win,so i would LOVE to beable to do that in the Perth area, slight problem though, gotta get in first! but i'm sure that will b ok,thanx, Lynn

from all the research I have done I believe hairdressers are as in demand as nurses. Get your application in girl!!!
