Default Cairns or Brisbane for timeserved chippy

Husband is timeserved carpenter/joiner, experienced in all aspects of the trade, both residential and commercial, also ran our own custom carpentry business whilst in States. We are stressing a bit at mo while at final leg waiting for our 136 visa to be granted. Hope someone on BE can give us a few pointers as feeling bewildered We dont know where his trade is in demand and if we should concentrate on Cairns or any particular areas surrounding Brisbane. Any advice or opinions (good or bad) would be most welcome and hopefully give us something to focus on. Thanks fellow BE posters, Lisa

With estimates of 20,000+ ppl moving into qld each week.. some are saying 5,000+ per week.. can you imagine the amount of house building, and allied trades requirement for this region?

It is phenomenal.

I would not imagine, Cairns is any different to Brisbane, in that good trades are in high demand..

Do a reccy visit, Brisbane, Rocky, Mackay, Townsville and Cairns

Thanks Youngy73 and Timber Floor AU for the positive replies.
OH will be less stressed knowing he should have no problem finding a job (He's 43 and worrying his age is against him, bless him, and has been in this trade all his life).
I should have mentioned we will be on a reccy trip in Queensland this November, but as the area is so vast we had no idea on where to go. Will certainly look at Townsville while in Cairns and some of the other areas mentioned.
Should OH enquire at recruitment agencies whilst there to get a better idea on jobs available and pay rates?
Also, as an alternative, do you know if you need to be licenced in Queensland to run a carpentry/joinery business? Thanks, appreciate any info on this.
Lisa

Townsville to Cairns is a 4 hour drive (just in case you were going to pop down ;-) )

Hmmm, I'll heed your advice on that, thanks. Will allow ourselves a few days then to explore at our leisure instead of a whistle stop tour. Cheers.
