cabin baggage
Hello, quick question, anyone know generally what size cabin baggage you can have (most probably singapore air), I saw a massive 30'' bag with wheels in Costco for only £25 yesterday and thought it'd be good but didnt know if it was too big, dont want to be stuck when we get to the airport.
Singapore website says 45'' but its the sum of the height , depth and width, whatever that means (45'' cubic?)

Passengers are allowed to carry ONE item of hand baggage, no larger than:
56 centimetres tall (approximately 22 inches)
45 centimetres wide (approximately 17.7 inches)
25 centimetres deep (approximately 10 inches)
through the airport security search point. Please note, this is the maximum bag size allowed through security.

you measure the length of the bag, the width of the bag and the height of the bag and then add all these together.
So a bag that was 24" long, 12" high and 9" wide is OK (24+12+9=45)
a bag that is 24" long 10" high and 12" wide is too big (24+10+12=46)
your 30" bag will certainly be too big (officially anyway). If its 30" long then that leaves 15" for the width and height combined - unless the bag is shaped like a long thin tube its just too big.

Thanks, I didnt buy it yet anyway but it was being sold as a cabin bag but maybe more geared to the American internal flight market.

If you are flying out of the UK - HERE

ie..
If you were travelling alone
Cabin bag plus handbag counts as two pieces...not permitted.
Video camera bag plus handbag counts as two pieces again not allowed.
Dutyfree Shopping bag plus handbag counts as two pieces again not allowed.
The failing of the rule is that you could have a single large bag (like the red, white and blue striped bag thingies with a zip top) with 3 smaller bags inside... say small backpack, handbag and duty free bag (no liquids) and that would be OK. Then after passing through security etc discard the larger bag and carry the 3 smaller ones on board the plane without a problem.
